Gig Companies Survive Another Hurdle

Lyft and Uber are celebrating a win today in their battle to stop their gig drivers from being viewed as employees. Labor groups, like the Service Employees International Union, and some drivers had fought to have the drivers categorized as employees so that they would be protected by laws that are available only to employees. The win for Lyft and Uber today in a California court of appeals means that gig workers are less likely to be deemed employees.

All that said, the Service Employees International Union and drivers will likely appeal to the California Supreme Court. So the story is not over yet.

Lyft and DoorDash also issued statements calling the ruling a victory for drivers and voters.
