A Stark Reminder to Carefully Review Filings

The quote below are my thoughts exactly. I've posted similar sentiments before related to AI in the legal context. You may have read about the attorney who submitted a brief that was written by ChatGPT, which included “hallucinations” (I love that term!). In this case, there were case citations that were 100% fabricated. If nothing else this should serve as a stark reminder of our responsibilities when filing documents. Also, we should double down on pulling all cited cases as part of any review.

Those takes miss the point. As has been the case since the dawn of the profession, lawyers are responsible for the work they provide to clients and courts. No technology, no matter how impressive or magic-seeming, absolves lawyers of their professional or ethical duties.
