"Already Out of the Office, Talent Flocks to Distributed Firms," The American Lawyer

On August 12, 2020, in an article published by The American Lawyer, Chris Wilson discusses the firm’s hybrid business model and how it has led to an uptick in the firm recruiting top attorneys. Wilson explained that the firm is poised to add five new attorneys who have recently committed, and expects to have 15 to 20 new remote attorneys by the end of 2020, bringing the total in that category to between 35 and 40.

“The vast majority of them have come post-coronavirus,” said Wilson. Compensation cuts and capital calls at traditional firms over the last few months have also fueled restlessness among attorneys. “Suddenly, they might be in a situation when they’re working for an Am Law 200 firm and because that Am Law 200 firm is having challenges, their compensation has been negatively impacted. They’re saying, ‘This isn’t fair. I’m still busy,’” said Wilson.

“If you can use the tools that are out there—whether that’s texting, phone, or video conferencing—and you’re communicating, then it doesn’t matter where you are,” he said.

And hybrid firm Taylor English Duma, which started hiring remote attorneys in 2018, boasts eight new names since the start of May.
