Taylor English Adds Two Nationally Recognized Bankruptcy Partners to Atlanta Office

Atlanta, Ga.

(October 20, 2022) – Taylor English Duma LLP announced today the addition of two new partners with a focus on bankruptcy. Neil Gordon and Jason Pettie will join the firm’s Atlanta office.

“The extensive experience of Neil and Jason speaks for itself. They are extremely skilled at guiding clients through the complex process of bankruptcy,” said Marc Taylor, chair of Taylor English. “We are thrilled they are bringing their expertise to Taylor English.”

The two attorneys joining Taylor English include:

  • Neil Gordon, who will serve as Partner in Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department where he will focus his practice on bankruptcy, fraud investigations, and creditor’s rights. Gordon has more than 40 years of experience working with secured and unsecured creditors, creditors’ committees, trustees, receivers, and debtors-in-possession. His practice focuses on guiding clients through the complexities of bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, debt restructuring, distressed assets, and fraud. Gordon serves as the bankruptcy trustee in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases and as an SEC receiver.

Gordon served as the bankruptcy trustee or receiver for John Porter, former chair of WorldCom; William Johnson, former owner of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel chain; S. Hubert Humphrey, a co-founder of A.L. Williams Co.; M2Direct, Inc.; The Grape, Inc.; Alpha Protective Services, Inc; New Day Atlanta, Inc.; Zephyr Automotive Finance Co.; Plaza Mortgage and Finance Co., Inc.; C. M. Vaughn LLC; and Bertha Hagler, the ex-spouse of World Boxing Champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler, in which case, he successfully challenged Ms. Hagler’s mortgage in a case of first impression before the Supreme Court of Georgia in what became known as Gordon I which along with Gordon II established the proper attestation for deeds in Georgia.

Gordon is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, Past President of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, a life member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, a Master of the Inns of Court, and serves on several other bankruptcy committees. He is also a prolific author and speaker on Bankruptcy Law topics. Gordon received his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law.

  • Jason Pettie, who will also serve as Partner in Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department where he will focus his practice on bankruptcy, restructuring, and creditors’ rights matters. He currently serves on the panel of Chapter 7 trustees for the Northern District of Georgia, and he has also served as the bankruptcy trustee in Chapter 11 cases. Pettie served as the bankruptcy trustee for Todd Chrisley, star of USA Network’s television series, Chrisley Knows Best, who was recently convicted on federal tax charges and for conspiring to defraud banks out of more than $30 million dollars in loans. Pettie represents debtors, trustees, creditors, equity holders, and asset purchasers. He is an active member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, where he serves as an elected representative on the National Board of Directors. Pettie graduated from the Howard University School of Law with honors.
