Taylor English Welcomes Intellectual Property Partner Michael Johnston

Taylor English Duma LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Johnston as a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group focusing on patent prosecution. Prior to joining the firm, Johnston was a member of Moore & Van Allen PLLC.

Johnston has more than 25 years of experience counseling clients on a wide variety of intellectual property matters including patent procurement, patentability, patent infringement, validity opinions and litigation. He regularly prepares and prosecutes U.S. and foreign patent applications in several industries such as mechanical, computer software, chemical and biotechnology. Additionally, Johnston administers and manages patent portfolios and prepares and evaluates patent assignments and license agreements.

He is an active member of several organizations, including: the American Intellectual Property Law Association; the American Bar Association’s Section of Intellectual Property Law; the North Carolina Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section and the Carolina Patent, Trademark & Copyright Law Association.

Johnston earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and his master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He earned his law degree from North Carolina Central University.
