Taylor English Welcomes Tax Partner John C. Sawyer

Taylor English Duma LLP is pleased to announce the addition of John “Jack” C. Sawyer as an Atlanta-based partner in the firm’s Tax Practice Group. Sawyer counsels clients in the areas of wealth planning, asset protection planning, and fiduciary and tax litigation.

“Jack is a seasoned tax attorney who brings additional depth to our ability to serve clients involved in tax litigation matters,” said Marc Taylor, a founding partner of Taylor English. “As part of our dedicated growth plan, we will continue to add attorneys of Jack’s caliber to expand our service offerings and geographic diversity to our clients.”

Sawyer has experience representing landowners and land trusts in planning and implementing bargain sales and conservation easements, and advocating for clients involved in contentious estate or trust-related litigation. He also regularly assists tax-exempt organizations in devising strategies to reduce their unrelated business taxable income and in obtaining New Markets Tax Credits financing for expansion.

Frequently recognized by his peers for his excellence in these areas, he is listed among The Best Lawyers in America, Georgia Super Lawyers and Worth Magazine’s Top 100 Attorneys. He is also listed as a Dispute Resolver by the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), the only national service dedicated exclusively to resolving disputes in the health care industry. He is a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and previously chaired the Fiduciary Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia. Additionally, he is a member of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning and the Land Trust Alliance. He authored the book, IRA Benefits Trusts Line by Line: A Detailed Look at IRA Benefits Trusts and How to Craft Them to Meet Your Needs.

In addition to his practice at Taylor English, Sawyer serves as pro bono general counsel for the Georgia Planned Giving Council.

Sawyer earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and his law degree from the University of Notre Dame.
