Taylor English Duma LLP is pleased to announce the addition of R. Scott Tobin as a partner in the firm’s corporate practice serving clients from both Raleigh, North Carolina, and Atlanta. Tobin concentrates his practice on business, finance, strategic partnerships, licensing, mergers and acquisitions, emerging companies and venture capital, corporate and litigation.
“We are delighted to have Scott as a member of our corporate team,” said Marc Taylor, a founding partner of Taylor English. “He brings years of experience to the firm representing clients in a broad range of industries, many of which are privately held technology companies. He frequently partners with clients at business-critical junctures, raising capital, leveraging capital and technologies, or in situations when owners or managers are joining or exiting a business.”
Prior to joining Taylor English, Tobin was a partner at an AmLaw 100 firm, Fox Rothschild, where his work concentrated on issues involving business finance, sales and acquisitions and disputes among private company investors and lenders, directors and management. Tobin also served as U.S. general counsel to expansion-minded overseas companies, advising them on all aspects of U.S. market entry.
Throughout his career, Tobin has held numerous corporate positions, including roles as a senior executive, entrepreneur and venture capitalist. His varied experience helps him to better manage risks and capitalize on client growth opportunities, leading to successful outcomes for his clients.
During the internet boom of the late ‘90s, he led the buyout of a long-time software client by an NYSE-listed company and spent more than a decade as both principal and operator of a succession of entrepreneurial business ventures before returning to private practice.
Tobin serves as board chair of the National Association of Corporate Directors’ Research Triangle Chapter and as a member of the board of the Association for Corporate Growth. He also has served on the University of North Carolina School of Law’s Alumni Association, Foundation, Long Range Planning Committee, and Council for Entrepreneurial Law and Initiative for Corporate Governance.
Tobin earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina.
