Taylor English Expands Intellectual Property Practice in North Carolina With the Addition of Partner Philip McCann

Taylor English Duma LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Phil McCann in Greensboro, North Carolina as a partner in the firm’s intellectual property practice. With more than 35 years of legal experience, McCann advises clients on patent and trademark infringement and patent licensing issues, as well as management of patent and trademark portfolios. McCann is the 12th attorney to join Taylor English’s hybrid remote model since January.

McCann regularly prosecutes patent and trademark applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in a variety of fields, such as specialty chemicals, polymer chemistry, adhesives, and medical devices. He also provides counsel to several large corporations, including patent prosecution in the United States and opposition proceedings in Europe.

Prior to joining Taylor English, McCann was a partner with a regional firm in the Carolinas and headed up the IP group for 15 years. He also gained experience serving as Chief IP Counsel for both Great Lakes Chemical Corporation and Clariant Corporation and serving as a patent counsel for Hoechst Celanese for 10 years.

Since 2018, McCann has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Patent Law. Outside of the office, McCann has been a 20-year member of the Association of Corporate Patent Counsel and is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association.

McCann earned his bachelor’s degree from Brock University, Master of Science degree from Gannon University, Master of Business degree from Drake University and law degree from the University of Akron.
