The California Department of Social Services has revoked the license of a chid care center because children and staff failed to wear masks as the rules require. The department made several visits after a parent complaint in September. On some visits, everyone was wearing a mask, but apparently on later visits, the inspectors found insufficient compliance.
I can't quite figure out why the department cited the problem as a high-level deficiency that posed "an immediate health, safety and personal rights risk to children in care." I can't recall ever seeing a similar situation cited as an "immediate" risk. It makes sense that the department would be irritated at the center's apparent inability to force children to wear masks. The published record of inspections, however, does not document a history or reasons that explain why the department has decided that the problem warrants a license revocation. The moral of the story, though, is that governments take their guidelines seriously.
