The new coronavirus is a hot topic right now, and I’ve heard some concerns from school and childcare centers about the best way to handle it. There currently are few reported cases in the U.S., but the virus does spread quickly.
The Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization suggest careful handwashing and sneezing/coughing protocols for most groups. From a legal point of view, you need to be aware of the symptoms, which mimic the colds and flu that are common this time of year. Play it safe with anyone exhibiting the symptoms, sending home any staff members or students until they get a doctor’s note that they are no longer contagious. Pay particular attention to anyone who has traveled recently to affected areas or whose family members have done so.
